Cosmetic dental treatment with regards to teeth whitening is a relatively new phenomenon compared to the home based whitening methods that have been around for a while. So when you are considering the cost of gaining a million dollar smile, you may wish to glance at some of the more economical options available. The good thing about home treatments for teeth whitening is that they are available over the counter and do not require any form of prescription from a medical professional. Of course, getting a doctor’s approval is always the safer option, in case you are one of those paranoid people.
These strips are readily available in the market, and at a reasonable rate. Whitening strips are almost transparent strips smeared with peroxide gel. Peroxide is the main agent used to clean and whiten teeth. These strips are placed across the teeth for the duration of approximately 30 minutes two times a day. To attain maximum results, these strips need to be used for 14 days. The whitened effect is supposed to last for about a month from the final application. Of course, to keep up the appearance of the teeth, the customer will have to invest in these strips every month.
Whitening gels are the semi-liquid form of the strips. Instead of holding the gel on a strip, the whitening gel is directly applied through a brush. This procedure allows people to evenly distribute the peroxide across the teeth, as opposed to trying to make the strip fit across all teeth. This is especially relevant for teeth that are uneven and do not run in a perfect line. Similar to the strips, the gel needs to be applied for 14 days, twice a day, 30 minutes each time.
Tray Based Bleach
This treatment set can be purchased over the counter, or from a dentist. While the peroxide gel is contained in this method, similar to the ones mentioned above, the application of the gel is different. The tray is a mouth guard like contraption that is filled with the gel made of the bleaching agent. This tray needs to be pressed against the teeth until they are fully sunk in the gel. This tray is worn for a certain period of time (ranging from one hour to a few). The duration of this procedure can take close to a month to achieve desired results. The advantage of purchasing this tray from a dentist is that the customer can place an order for a custom made tray that fit his or her teeth better.
These are amongst the newest teeth whitening products. They work as regular mouthwash to cleanse the mouth of germs, but they also contain hydrogen peroxide, which allows the whitening to occur. These rinses need to be kept in the mouth for a minimum time of a minute for the customer to be able to see results within 12 weeks. That being said, rinses are not as effective as other purchased products, as the whitening gel is not smeared on the teeth for a prolonged period of time, but swished around for a few seconds. That being said, whitening rinses are easy to use and provide for an overall cleansing of the mouth, which is far superior to just whiter teeth.
